Robert Tittle is best described as self taught, while in high school he studied the mail correspondence art course, "Art Instruction Inc.", many books from the library, and how to paint books from art stores.
At age 26, Robert was employed with the retail store, "The Fashion of Columbus", as the display artist, designing window displays and props. Robert painted oils in his spare time and was encouraged to start selling them, by a friend, Columbus Artist, Emerson Burkart.
Roberts' work was regularly seen in Columbus from 1964 to 1973 at sidewalk art shows at Graceland and Town & Country shopping centers. He also had solo shows at Forester's restaurant, and the Players Club.
In 1969, he was the Visual Merchandising Manager for Sears in Tiffin, Ohio. An art show at his home in 1970 resulted with him meeting members of the Tiffin Artist Association, and he was later elected Vice President and publicity chairman. He had displays of his paintings in many public places in that area.
Robert has won three International Display Contest that featured his art and designs, awarding him two first place gold medals and one second place bronze. His paintings are in private collections in Ohio Indiana, Florida and England.
He opened an art shop in Columbus, "Village Arts Unlimited" where he sold many paintings to visitors to German Village. Robert also painted many designs on vans at one time. He joined the Franklin County Sheriffs Department in 1979 and produced many composites that assisted in the identification and arrest of wanted suspects. In 1986 he was honored by the F.B.I. and attended their National Academy on Police Composite Art and Photo Retouching.
Robert has retired from the Sheriffs Department and devotes his time to working in his studio full time. February of 2006 Robert became the President of the Bexley Art League, he is also a member of the Worthington Area Art League.
Robert is presently working on multiple commissions involving people and pets. If you have an interest in a custom painting or portrait don't hesitate to contact Robert. He will be glad to hear from you.
